Are fantasy leagues good for sports?

Simple question guys, are fantasy leagues good for sports? I personally join a fantasy league for almost every sport. My two favorites being football and baseball. Keeper leagues are even better, they make you become a consistent player, and have to think more before every move you make. Your inner competitiveness also grows, especially if your dueling it out for first place with one of your buddies. One line might be “i just got an elite keeper, his name is Nelson Cruz (who is having an amazing season by the way).” The feeling you get when you know that you have just made a trade to help your team, is one of the top 10 feelings you can have, ok well maybe not top 10, but its a great one.
Fantasy leagues turn the casual fan, into one that’s constantly checking scores, and getting updates. They teach you the game in a different way, a homerun is 4 points in my league. Each player, has to select 20 players to be on their team for baseball. That’s a lot, you have to do your research, and you’ll also need a little bit of luck. My advice to those of you who haven’t tried this wonderful game is, SIGN UP NOW.

I know I am in the minority. I do NOT play fantasy leagues. I have never needed fantasy leagues to pay attention to sports.
Are fantasy leagues good for sports? Hmmmm….
I don’t know too much about fantasy leagues. Do you get points if a guy on your fantasy team drops a successful sacrifice bunt? How about if a guy fights off a bunch of pitches and hits behind the runner.
For football, do you get points for a guy who makes a block?
Correct me if I am wrong, but fantasy leagues are self-centered. Right? Anybody who gets interested in sports because of a fantasy league is NOT going to pay attention to many of the important aspects of the game. For example, a casual fan looks at Andy Rautins and only thinks he is contributing when he is knocking down threes. Consider all of the passes he makes that lead to assists (Gretzkys). Those don’t get much credit in fantasy leagues. And yeah, I know Rautins has not played in the NBA. Using him as a point of reference.
Back to the question: are fantasy leagues good for sports? I say no. Sports catering to the casual fan will lead to the erosion of the game.

I think they are good in the aspect that the teams are being seen more as a result, which i think is what they want.
